{"id":124,"date":"2011-10-14T06:05:52","date_gmt":"2011-10-14T06:05:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rentalsvillage.co.za\/decor\/?p=124"},"modified":"2012-12-10T14:30:05","modified_gmt":"2012-12-10T14:30:05","slug":"church-etiquette-on-your-wedding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rentalsvillage.co.za\/decor\/church-etiquette-on-your-wedding","title":{"rendered":"Church Etiquette on your Wedding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>You have one opportunity to take your vows in an unforgettable ceremony, surrounded by your loving family and friends.\u00a0 Getting married will change your lives dramatically.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Change can be a good thing, but amidst all the wedding excitement, you will need to feel emotionally calm and safe to be good to one another and to continue to love one another.\u00a0 Be one another\u2019s soft place to fall \u2013 protect, encourage and look after one another.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>A church is the ideal place to get married: there is a solemn atmosphere; it creates a dignified backdrop with heavenly organ music.\u00a0 You dedicate your lives to one another and to God, the strongest ally in the entire world.\u00a0 This is different from a birthday party or reunion or an office party.\u00a0 This is the real thing!\u00a0 The contrast between the solemnity of a church ceremony and the jollity of the reception will add a special sparkle to the event.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>The Minister<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Ask the minister to discuss the exact order of events during the wedding ceremony with you.\u00a0 Remember to pay him and to invite him and his wife to the wedding reception.\u00a0 The minister will probably advise you to attend a premarital adjustment course.\u00a0 Invest in such a course \u2013 it really is worth the effort!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Inform the minister in writing about who will provide any musical items, as well as the name of the composition and the composer.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>The Verger<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em> <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Book and discuss the wedding day, date and time of your wedding with the verger well ahead of time.\u00a0 Ask him for information about all fees regarding a wedding that have to be paid (the verger, organist, minister, etc.).\u00a0 Arrange a time for the wedding rehearsal.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Wedding Rehearsal<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Arrange a day before the wedding when the bridal group, verger, minister and, if possible, the musicians can rehearse at the church.\u00a0 Make sure that everyone concerned knows exactly what will happen when.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Order of Wedding Service<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Include the names of the minister, organist, singers, other soloists, composers and even the bridal retinue (if there is room) on the printed order of service.\u00a0 References to the readings, music and the words of the hymns that are to be sung should also be inserted.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The bride\u2019s family and friends sit on the left in the front of the church, the groom\u2019s family and friends sit to the right.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>When everyone has taken their places \u2013 about five minutes or so before the bride enters \u2013 the bride\u2019s mother enters and sits down in the first or second pew from the front.\u00a0 She keeps a place open next to her for the brides farther \u2013 along the isle.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>The order of events<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The bride and her father drive to the church together \u2013 she sits in the back of the car at the right, with her father to her left.\u00a0 He brings her into the church walking to his right: this is the place of honour.\u00a0 Her left hand rests on his right forearm, but she can tuck her hand into his arm if she needs a little more support.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The bride\u2019s entrance is a dramatic moment: the guests rise, the organ music rings out joyously in a wedding march or another classical piece.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The groom and the best man wait in the front of the church.\u00a0 The bride\u2019s father gives her to the groom at the end of the aisle.\u00a0 The bride stands in the centre.
